***IMPORTANT UPDATE*** ESLL officially cancels season due to Covid-19

Hello East Scottsdale Little League Families,

This is an email that we hoped we would never have to write, but we’ve unfortunately reached the place we’d hope to avoid. In the interest of your children's safety, East Scottsdale Little League officially announces the cancellation of the Spring 2020 Season for all divisions, T-ball, Farm, Minors, and Majors.

As much as we want baseball for our families, we want to be sure we can do it safely and at a level of quality we expect from our league. With the amount of interaction between players, coaches, umpires, and families/spectators, we don’t believe we can offer a satisfactory and safe baseball experience under the current situation. We feel that there is too much uncertainty with Little League, nationally, regionally, state and district levels. Nor can we envision playing a game that is compliant with current COVID-19 best practices and guidance from all levels of government including the City of Scottsdale, Maricopa County, the State of Arizona and the Federal Government.  Our city government could not provide a definitive timeline as to when our League could access our allocated fields for game play. School closures and current social distancing protocols regarding public gatherings also have weighed heavily in this decision. We looked into the options of playing a modified season later, but with the amount of unknowns we currently have, in addition to the survey responses received from our families, we ultimately decided that it would not be feasible to move forward. We are beyond saddened to lose the season.  We would like to say thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented and most difficult time for our league and families.

Looking Forward:
Our goal at this point is to come back with a great Fall Ball schedule and ultimately, a strong 2021 Spring season.
We will announce details of the 2020 Fall Season when Little League can return safely and with direction from our Government and Little League International. Typically 12 year old can not participate in fall ball as they have exceeded their league age eligibility. However, Little League has already announced and
approved the use of the Spring 2020 Age chart for the rest of the calendar year, therefore our twelve-year old’s can still play this fall!

We have decided to offer a refund to our families.  We want to be as transparent as we possibly can and would love to give full refunds, however, being that we are a non-profit organization who is not affiliated with the city, we do not turn a profit each season from the registration fees.  The nature of our organization is that we spend most of the money upfront to get the season going. We do want to do our best to give back what we can.  We have evaluated the overall impact of our annual start up, operating and facilities expenses, exploring what can be absorbed/carried over into the future season.  We reviewed where we are financially so that we could determine how we can give back without bankrupting our league.  We determined that financially we can afford to refund 50% of the registration fees.  This is not an attempt to make money, rather an attempt to keep future seasons running.  As a non-profit, every penny matters. All we want is to keep ESLL going so that when we are allowed to play, our children have a league to play in.

So look for refunds hitting you credit card over the next two weeks.

In Closing:
We know this situation is disappointing for everyone. Many of us treasure the friendships, experiences and memories that come along with every baseball season and we will be grieving the loss of these special times together. To all of our amazing managers, coaches, team parents, scorekeepers, board members, parents, and especially our players, we want to thank all of you for making our league great.   East Scottsdale Little League has no doubt that we’ll only come back stronger from this. On behalf of ESLL we wish each of you a very safe and healthy spring and summer. We look forward to returning this Fall and next Spring better and stronger than ever.
